Server Templates
A one-click Discord layout builder for Rust communities. Pick a kit — PvP, PvE, Modded, Clan Wars, a rate multiplier, a wipe cycle, and more — and RustyWorks creates every role, category and channel for you, with the permissions already locked down correctly.
Instead of building your Discord from scratch — roles, categories, channels, and who can see and post in each one — Server Templates does it in one build. Every template ships with the right permission structure baked in: regular members can't see your staff area, only Owners can post in announcements, and feature channels are set up so the bot's commands actually work in them. Each channel also gets a short welcome message explaining what to set up next (e.g. "run /ticket config here").
You can trigger a build two ways: the /template command in Discord, or the Server Templates page on your dashboard — where you can also preview a template, lightly customise it, and choose whether to build alongside your existing server or wipe it first for a completely clean start.
30+ templates, one shared foundation
Every template includes the same 10 base staff/member roles and the same core categories (Introduction, Server Info, Announcements, Community Chat, Support, Voice, Staff Zone, Owner Zone) — then adds its own theme category and a role or two on top. That means switching between templates, or mixing ideas from two of them, never feels like starting over.
The Template Catalogue
Every card in the dashboard shows the exact number of roles, categories and channels a template will create — those counts are always generated live, so what you see is exactly what you'll get. Here's the full set grouped by theme:
General & Full-Featured
| Template | Best for | What makes it different |
|---|---|---|
| Rust Server — Full Setup | Servers that want everything | The biggest template — 45 channels including clans, bounties, a paid/Discord shop, gambling, Zorp and stats, all in one build. |
| Vanilla | Unmodded, no-frills servers | The leanest general template — no Economy or Features category, nothing but the essentials. |
| Small Community | Brand-new or tight-knit servers | The smallest template overall — no theme category, and the only one that skips the Owner Zone entirely. |
| Server Network | Owners running multiple Rust servers | Adds an "Our Servers" category with live status channels for each server in your network. |
| Beginner Friendly | Communities onboarding new players | Adds start-here, ask-anything, find-a-mentor and a guides forum. |

Permissions are baked in, not bolted on
Every channel a template creates already has the right visibility rules applied — regular channels are readable once you're Verified, feature channels (teleports, gambling, kits) allow bot commands, announcement channels only let Owners post, and the Staff Zone and Owner Zone are invisible to everyone else. You don't need to configure any of this yourself afterwards.
Building From the Dashboard
Open Server Templates from your dashboard to browse every template with live role/category/channel counts. If you've customised a template before, its card shows an ✎ Customised badge.
Preview & Edit
Click Preview & Edit on any template to see its full role list and its category/channel tree. From here you can rename a channel, change its type (text, voice, announcement or forum), and rewrite the welcome message that gets posted into it — handy if you want the wording to match your own server's voice. Edits are saved per-server, so they'll still be there next time you open this page, and a Reset Edits button reverts back to the stock template at any time.
Choose: Add Alongside, or Wipe First
By default, building a template is additive — it creates the new roles, categories and channels alongside whatever you already have. If you'd rather start completely clean, tick Wipe the server first. This is the one truly destructive option in this module: it deletes every channel and every custom role before building, and Discord cannot undo it. To guard against accidental clicks, you have to type WIPE exactly before the build button unlocks.
Wipe is best-effort, not guaranteed-total
A wipe skips any role positioned above the bot's own role, and any channel the bot doesn't have permission to delete. For a fully clean sweep, make sure RustyWorks' role sits near the top of your server's role list beforehand (Server Settings → Roles).
Build & Watch Progress
Once you confirm, a progress bar shows exactly what's being created in real time — "Creating role X", "Creating #channel-name" — and survives a page refresh if you need to step away. A typical build takes one to two minutes; RustyWorks paces itself deliberately to stay well within Discord's rate limits, so a full wipe-and-rebuild of a busy server will take a little longer. Only one build can run per server at a time.
The /template Command
| Command | Who can use it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/template list | Administrators | Shows every template with its name, description and current role/category/channel counts. |
/template apply template:<name> wipe:<true/false> | Administrators | Builds the chosen template directly in Discord. Shows a confirmation panel first — and if your server already looks "lived in" (more than a handful of channels, or any custom roles) and you've chosen to wipe, the warning gets noticeably more serious about what you're about to lose. |
This command needs the Administrator permission — the server Owner always qualifies automatically. RustyWorks also checks that it has its own Manage Channels and Manage Roles permissions before starting; if either is missing, it tells you up front instead of failing partway through.
Good to Know
Applying the same template twice creates duplicates
RustyWorks doesn't check for existing channels or roles with matching names before building — so running the same template a second time (or building onto a server that already has similarly-named channels) will create a second copy of everything, not merge with what's there. If you want a fresh copy, wipe first.
Announcement and forum channels need Discord's "Community" feature
If your server doesn't have Community enabled, RustyWorks will quietly fall back to building those channels as regular text channels instead — you'll see a note about it in the build results. Forum channels also don't receive a welcome message, since Discord forums need a thread rather than a normal post.
If a build fails partway through — most commonly because of a missing bot permission — anything already created is left in place rather than rolled back, so you can finish the rest manually or wipe and try again.
